Snoring an be an
embarrassing habit, but what is worse is that it can also be very
dangerous. The lack of sleep for
yourself and anyone in your bedroom with you can lead to all sorts of health
problems, from obesity to chronic headaches to vision problecms and many other
things. At this point you may have tried
a few things for the problem, but are ready to try a sleep aid for snoring. What are the different products available and
how do they work?
Some
sleep aids for snoring are like mouthpieces that you see athletes wear, only
they don't exactly guard the teeth. What
they do is push the lower jaw forward so that your mouth doesn't fall open at
night, which then allows you to breathe through your nose the way you're
supposed to. When you breathe through
your nose you cut down on your incidents of snoring. These types of sleep aids for snoring are
fitted by your dentist or doctor and reportedly have great success for those
who try them. They usually cost a few
hundred dollars, so it's good to make sure that your jaw needs to be aligned
this way in order to cut down on your snoring.
Another
common sleep aid for snoring is what is called a snore pillow. This pillow is made of foam rather than
regular feather pillows and keeps your head in better alignment with your
spine. This too keeps your mouth from
falling open so that you breathe through your nose. Many snore pillows are designed to work with
whatever position you sleep in. Some
also find that as a sleep aid for snoring, they can use a firm pillow under their
back and one hip. This too keeps them in
a better position for sleep and keeps their mouth closed at night.
These
types of sleep aids for snoring are typically preferred by those who try them
because they don't interfere with the sleep of those around them. Some other remedies, such as eucalyptus oil
or menthol, can be irritating to those in the room or even to the snorer. Throat sprays and syrups also are successful
to a certain extent, but can wear off during the night. These other sleep aids for snoring are
successful, quiet, without scent, and typically very successful for those who
try them.
